How to Make

  1. Trim a strip from the bottom of the T-shirt, about 2 inches from the bottom and put the extra loop of fabric to one side.
  2. Lay the T-shirt out flat on your work surface so there are no creases (it may help to iron it first). If possible, pin each corner, pulling the material taut, as it will be easier to draw on without the fabric rippling beneath your pen.
  3. Using a black fabric pen, start doodling! If you haven't been able to pin your T-shirt, work in sections and pull it taut as you work. Draw straight onto the T-shirt, dividing the material up into sections by starting with straight or wavy lines, then filling in each area with different patterns. If you make a mistake, just colour over it as blocks of black look effective too.
  4. You can cover as much or as little of the fabric as you like, it's entirely up to you. When you're pleased with the finished result, hem up the bottom edge of the T-shirt with a strip of iron-on interfacing. Wear it loose, or stitch coloured thread through the interfacing in big, even stitches, then pull it tight around the back to create a gathered effect.
